Draw something Mom
I had been thinking of an image to represent motherhood for this weeks “Draw something Mom” prompt when I came upon a beautiful reference photo of a mother swan and two cygnets at Wet Canvas for the Weekend Art Event.
Although this wasn’t a picture that I took, I felt very strongly attracted to it, and it holds a special meaning for me. So, it will be my interpretation of the challenge.
Arty bits: painted on Fabriano Artistico 140 lb. paper, 7″ x 5″. I did a very light pencil drawing first.

In a word…BEAUTIFUL!!
SO SWEET!!!! SO BEAUTIFULLY DONE!!
I especially like the watchful expression in Mother Swan’s eye.
Very sweet. No doubt about it; she’s a mom!
Karen,
This is a wonderful subject for something Mom. What a lovely painting.
Beautiful work.
This painting is so beautiful.
I love the way you interpreted “Draw something Mom”.
The subject as well as the painting is lovely. For the past few weeks i’ve been thinking of attempting the lake outside my apartment to learn to tackle the reflections in the water. And any painting that i’ve come across since with reflections I’ve looked at extra carefully. You’ve done such a wonderful job of the reflections too.
A lovely painting with a nice contrast of cool and warm colors.
Karen,
I absolutely LOVE the colors and composition in this!
Beautiful image. I love the way you have wrapped the water around her, and that blue is amazing.
Thank you for your comment on my blog about the dappled light. It’s nice to have some good bits pointed out!
Snap! I drew swans on my daily drawing walk yesterday only mine are black and they have finished their parenting for this year.
Thank you, everyone … it was a lot of fun to paint and very special to me, as a mom. I think I might actually frame this one instead of sticking it in my folder of experiments and practice pages.
Hello that work is very nice but im looking for somthing for mother’s day.
