Golden Panorama California rolling hills oaks oil painting
“Golden Panorama”
15 x 30 inches oil painting
SOLD
I don’t usually paint in series, but lately I’ve been focusing on different explorations of California’s golden rolling oak covered hills. This is the first wide-format one that I’ve done. The other most recent ones were both 20 x 24 inches.
This painting represents the California Central Coast region, near Cambria, Morro Bay, Cayucos and Paso Robles. I wonder how much the oaks have recovered this year following the several years of drought.
This painting is now sold, but you can write for information about others.

Hillside Sycamores California landscape oil painting
“Hillside Sycamores”
9 x 12 inches
California impressionist plein air oil painting
In the springtime, the warmer weather invites me to do more plein air painting, and to visit areas where the trees and flowers are bursting with life. And nowhere is that more apparent than in California’s Central Coast, in San Luis Obispo County. These sycamores were growing in a little clump on the side of a hill, with last year’s sage at their feet. It was late in the day, and within a half an hour the trees were starting to be covered with shadows.

Moonstone Beach in Cambria is one of my favorite shores to paint. This miniature 6 x 6 inch painting captures the freshness of the surf, with the mist in the air, on a beautiful fall day.

This painting is a larger studio version of a smaller study I did last year. I had been wanting to paint the same subject larger, and just needed the time to get around to it. This beautiful vineyard is on highway 46, in Paso Robles. At sunset the hills just glow. I can’t say for sure that these are sauvignon vines, but I liked the alliteration, so there it is.

Fresh from last week’s trip to California’s Central Coast, this oil painting features one of California’s indigenous live oak trees towering over rolling vineyard hills. The vines are all leafed out, now, and look beautiful in the late afternoon light.

This is one of my favorite spots to paint whenever I go to the San Luis Obispo area. I think it just captures the feeling of this quiet coastal area with eucalyptus trees, Morro Bay, Morro Rock and watercraft. This painting has the official stamp of the San Luis Obispo Plein Air Festival on the reverse side.
San Luis Obispo Creek Oil Painting
San Luis Obispo Creek
9 x 12 inch oil painting
Available.
(this view features a bridge over the creek. I chose an angle that did not show the cement walkways, as I prefer the natural look.)

San Luis Obispo Creek winds through the Central California city of San Luis Obispo, before emptying into the Pacific Ocean near Avila Beach. Numerous restaurants line the banks of the creek, and if you eat on one of their patios during the summer, you’ll be treated to the sounds of a chorus of frogs. Occasionally steelhead trout can be seen in the waters. An annual cleanup day keeps the creek in good condition, a source of pride for the community.

More painting at the San Luis Obispo Plein Air Festival. This lovely spot is Sweet Springs, a 24 acre nature sanctuary in Los Osos, California. Towering eucalyptus groves shelter a quiet pond where flocks of birds feed and rest from their migratory flights. I understand the grove is sometimes a shelter for Monarch butterflies, too.

This was painted during the San Luis Obispo Plein Air festival, 2012 where I was one of a select group of invited artists.
The colors of the beach and ocean really are amazing.
