Blue Cove

“Blue Cove” 9 x 12 watercolor

A few things I was experimenting with: lost and found edges, limited color scheme, interlocking edges, oblique forms, use of reflections, using suggestive brushwork rather than painting every little leaf and bush, using strong value patterns and so on.

This afternoon I’m looking forward to a paintout at a local botanical garden with artpal Wendee!

This is just gorgeous! Is it just my eyes, or do you have a new shade of blue (and if so, will you please share with us what it might be?!) or a new scanner / camera? Or are you just putting more rich blues into things all of a sudden? Picasso had a blue period … I guess you can, too! (I’ll admit to maybe liking your blue period more …)

Linda, I believe that it is a thalo but I may have sneaked a little Holbein turquoise in here and there.
Yes I am trying to put more emotional color into everything – which sometimes means going more intense than reality … or sometimes less saturated than reality if that makes the painting “work.”
