Flintridge Cottage

“Flintridge Cottage” – watercolor – 5.3″ x 7″

Every year our town has a spring garden tour of some of the nicest homes. I often take a camera along to get ideas for landscaping. And occasionally these gardens end up in my paintings, too. This ivy covered cottage is on the route of one of our daily walks. With manicured box hedges, rose bushes and perennial flowers, it looks like something out of a fairy tale.

    P. S. Was this done on site or from a photo?

Thanks Jana. It was done from my original photo. At the time I took it, about three years ago, I was primarily drawing and hadn’t returned to watercolor painting yet. However, I do have a lot of garden paintings done on location, mostly at Descanso Gardens

A magical kind of house so what secrets are hidden behind all that ivy. I once saw a superb house almost covered in purple bouganvillea. The picture begs for lots of Lord of the Ring creatures lurking in the garden, or a picture for a kid’s book.

Beautifully clean watercolor. It feels like an English cottage in the springtime. Just lovely….

This is really nice, Karen. I have no idea how you get time to do all that you do.
