Roses and Tulips still life oil painting

Roses and Tulips Bouquet
9 x 12 inches, oil on wood panel

This colorful bouquet came from an anniversary bouquet from my husband – I love the bright freshness of it and immediately wanted to paint it. He really knows the kind of flowers and colors I like. When painting botanicals, it’s very important to keep my palette very clean. I use a glass palette, so I can scrape it down with a razor blade to get ride of colors that get muddy. Even that may not get it clean enough sometime, and that’s why I wipe it down with alcohol after the razor blade removal of the big patches of color.

Speaking of color, for the past several years, we’ve been working on developing a floral garden at our house to provide me with fresh painting material about 9 months a year. We’re almost there!
