His Eye is on the Sparrow
“His Eye is on the Sparrow” 8in x 8in – watercolor on 140# Fabriano paper
SOLD
This painting was partly inspired by the song so loved by gospel singer Ethel Waters, “His Eye is on the Sparrow.”
Although the watercolor painting is sold I since painted the same scene as an oil painting, 11 x 14 inches, oil on canvas.

How sweet is this?! I love it! And I like the way you´ve made the arms go into the background by turning them blue – a great way to put focus on the hands and the bird. Beautiful painting!

Thanks all …
Nina … you have a good eye. After I finished laying in the basic washes and the background color, I took a big brush and knocked back the warmth of the flesh in the forearms. I wasn’t sure if it would work and risked ruining the painting at that stage, but I felt that it was necessary to make the bridge to the spiritual content … and also to keep the center of interest, compositionally.

This is such a beautiful painting! I love how the hand seem to glow, they appear so warm compared to the blue of the background. And you put such a tremendous amount of detail into the sparrow; try as I might, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to produce a piece like this.
PS: His Eye is on the Sparrow is one of my favorite songs

I LOVE this painting… I would love to commission another one of these if you were up for it! My husband and I lost our house this year and miraculously God has provided a job for him and a home on SPARROW CT for us to live in! I have really been feeling God’s guiding/keeping hand through this whole experience and this picture perfectly illustrates that feeling of nurtured safety! Please let me know how I could get one of these for my new home on Sparrow Court! Thank you!!
