LA Chinatown Parade - 1

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

Yesterday we took the Gold Line Metro down to Chinatown for the annual LA Golden Dragon Parade, which is the official big event for Chinese New Year. Along the way we stopped at MOCA (LA’s Museum of Contemporary Art) to see the exhibit of late 20th century American comics, but we didn’t leave anywhere […]

Ripley in my new cahier Moleskine

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

This afternoon Ripley was sleeping so soundly on the floor of my office that I thought I could probably get a quick drawing of her done before she stirred. She did move her paws around but thankfully kept her head steady most of the time.
This was drawn with the water soluble Kuretake brush pen, which […]

Goatboy

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

Continuing the series, this young goat was drawn with the Kuretake water soluble brush pen, then water was added to soften the lines. A little watercolor was added for a bit of color.
It’s not the most dynamic pose, but most of the time he/she was looking in the opposite direction, giving me a view that […]

Sketchcrawling continues …

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

A few more scenes from the sushi bar toward the end of our crawl last Saturday night. Yes, I know I have drawn the sake bottle and the cup from different angles; a higher angle didn’t show the drawing on the bottle. A lower angle didn’t show the liquid in the cup. Matisse got […]

More sketchcrawling

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Saturday night, after an afternoon at Descanso Gardens we had a quick sushi stop (yesterday’s scan), had a latte at Starbucks and went to see Memoirs of a Geisha. These are some of the people I saw along the way.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, by the way. I had read the book earlier this […]

Illo Friday - Dream

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

It’s starting to look like I have a one track mind when it comes to illustrations. That is, that it must have at least one American bulldog in it, preferably sleeping or dozing. (see: Dog Wisdom)
Actually, I drew this a month or so ago and it seemed to fit the theme, so here it […]

The Dog Who Loved Cats

Monday, August 29th, 2005

This is such a great story, I couldn’t resist posting the link …
The Dog Who Loved Cats
Ginny, a foundling dog died at 17 recently after a lifetime of service to cats. She apparently saved 800 of them - strays, ill cats, pregnant mothers and more. Mother Teresa with a cold wet nose. That’s Ginny.

Lucky Boy lunch crowd

Sunday, August 28th, 2005

This morning, while running other errands, we stopped for a hamburger at a Pasadena institution called “Lucky Boy.” (I have no idea who the lucky boy is or why it’s called that.) It’s the late night hangout for local football teams, and known for meals of inappropriately large proportions. Football players may be able to […]

Youth and Age

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

My thanks to Moleskinerie for featuring this site again, and welcome to Moleskinerie visitors. I will be scanning and adding more and more Moleskine drawings as the days go on, so I hope you’ll check back for them. There is an RSS feed, so you can check that way also.
I originally planned this drawing as […]

Weary

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

This isn’t me, but it’s how I feel today. Sort of limp from the summer heat and a bit weary from yard work. I have close to 30 chrysanthemum plants of different varieties all potted up in 5 gallon cans; today was the day to reposition them so they are not shaded as the sun […]
