California plein air oil painting - Bare Naked Sycamores - Eaton Canyon
Bare Naked Sycamores
12 x 9 inches
Oil on linen panel
This is the 2nd of two plein air paintings I did last weekend at Eaton Canyon. The first, posted earlier, featured the mountainside, looking north. This painting, painted from the same spot, looks across the riverbed in a southeasterly direction. After a day standing at the easel I was just too tired to go looking for other angles, and these two statuesque sycamores were close by. Our winter season is so short in Southern California that we don’t see bare naked trees very often. Within six weeks I’m guessing that these two will have leaves starting to burst forth. Some fall leaves are still clinging, even after the torrential rains.

Eaton Canyon is lovely all through the year!
Karen, this is lovely with such beautiful gesture in the trees. We don’t seem to have sycamore here, but I took photos in the Gila Wilderness so hope to try some. Your work is inspiring.
