California Oak Hills Wildflower Landscape – Karen Winters

May 24th, 2009

Peaceful Valley
11 x 14 oil on canvas

While traveling over a mountain pass in Central California, I stopped to enjoy this vista down into a sheltered valley. Cattle were grazing among the dotted oak trees, enveloped in a late afternoon mist. The hillsides were still covered with wildflowers but the grass had begun to turn golden in the flat land, creating a unique green-gold color that only exists for a short while.

Yesterday afternoon we had the pleasure of attending the opening reception for the California Art Club event “On Location is Malibu” – a collection of paintings on display at the Weisman Museum at Pepperdine University. Many of the artists were present and the gallery rooms were practically packed to capacity. It was good to see old friends and to meet new ones, surrounded by their exceptional works.
