Poppy fields - daily painting

October 19th, 2007

“Poppy Fields” - 11 x 14 inches - oil on canvas -
SOLD
This painting, inspired by California’s Lancaster poppy reserve is not for sale but is being donated to a fundraising auction to help an educational program. I had such a good time painting it that I will probably paint a variation of this theme again, sometime soon.

Isn’t it wonderful how nature just “naturally” mixes together the yellow-oranges of poppies with complementary blue-violets of lupines? One could even make a good case for “Intelligent Art Direction,” I think!

  1. This looks like such a dreamy wonderful place with those green hills, especially since all the hills here are quite brown right now. I so envy your talent and skill and your ability to get brilliant clean colors, no mud, and still make the atmospheric and linear perspective work.

  2. Karen, are you near where the bushfires are so devastating? We know what it is like as there have been many fires in this part of Australia.

  3. We’ve been on the road and no time to comment. This is lovely for an auction. You are getting better and better. These last few are great.

  4. I just love this one — poppies are among my favorite flowers, and we just don’t get to grow them very well around here. I’m also wondering if you are at all affected by the fires there. It’s just terrible!

  5. Thanks, all, for your comments. Thankfully we are far from the fires, although we certainly have a lot of smoke from those areas drifting by. Sadly some fires are caused by natural forces (winds knocking down electrical poles, etc.) but some are the result of arson. These are tragedies that didn’t have to happen.
