Update
Well, the show was kind of a bust. In fact, I don’t think any of my fellow CAC members sold anything and there were plenty of folks there showing absolutely gorgeous work. There were precious few attendees in the beginning, more arrived in the middle, and at the end of the day, by far the largest # of the people circulating in the gallery area were artists whose works were being shown. Hmmm. Well, perhaps potential collectors were still vacationing or not interested in coming out on a very hot Saturday afternoon, even for a worthy benefit. At any rate, I’m glad I participated, and we shall all tell each other ‘better luck next time’ and keep painting!
In the meantime I have three more shows to prep for, so there is no time to whine or mope, and doing so would be a silly waste of energy anyway.
I am so happy doing what I love to do - painting - that it would take quite a lot to dampen that spirit.

Well don’t let it get to you. From what my artist friends tell me here, shows are more often not good than good. I suppose galleries are a better bet maybe?
Looking forward to more of your posts.
Either way, don’t fret. Your work is excellent and you’ll find a good backing in due time. As you say, painting is the fun part anyway
I think a show is always good. You work for a show and present your best work in the best possible way. The word gets out .. even from other artists. Your work was beautiful for the show. No one sees it hanging on your wall or sitting on the floor at home.
Good luck in your next endeavors. Your paintings are getting better and better. So keep on having fun and learning.
Later,
Jo
I think you’ve just faced an experience which is not uncommon amongst artists.
On the whole I think people turn up to shows because they’ve been personally alerted / received an invitation etc. Unless it’s a very well established and well known organisation and/or a very major event. It’s why Private Views should achieve most of the sales for any gallery show.
I know I’ve been part of shows in the past where there was not much happening on the sales front. I guess if we all as artists put as much time and effort into the business and marketing end as we do into the art we’d all do better.
