Autumn Falls - Daily Painting

November 27th, 2006

Autumn Falls - 15 in x 11 in (quarter sheet) - Watercolor on paper

Yes, I was in a very fauve mood when I painted this one - born partly from imagination and partly from a few reference photos of streams and fall foliage. I love our dark California oaks, soft chapparal and muted hillsides, but when fall comes my paintbrush craves the wild colors of the deciduous forests of the midwest and east.

  1. Ahh… A beautiful sight to a born Connecticut Yankee. I love the space and open skies and light of the Southwest above everything else, but I do miss that cascade of water and autumn foliage. Thanks, Karen.

  7. Karen,

I’m now inspired to paint a sketch of Cherry Creek, which isn’t far from where I live. Unfortunately, temperatures will be in the teens today, so I’ll have to wait for warming weather. So glad you posted all of your water works.

    Thanks.
