Face of rage

June 9th, 2005

Let’s not call it rage. Let’s call it mild annoyance.
I tried a free paint application for the PC and Mac called Art Rage. It’s a new release and VERY generously offered free by the developers.
ArtRage Link
The only problem is, after spending some time painting something (an orange) and thinking that the file had been successfully saved, I closed the little application and found that the file had not been saved, nor was it anywhere on my HD.

So I tried it again, drawing this 60 sec. doodle just so I’d have something to save. I saved it again. And then to be extra safe, tried using the Export … feature. Before closing I looked on my HD for the files, and again, they were nowhere to be found. So I took a screenshot, which is apparently the only way you can preserve your works of art until they get the bugs out.

I’m not using some esoteric Mac version, either. I’m on a G4 tower running OS 10.2.8 and the painting part of the program worked just fine.
I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that it’s a fixable bug since the product is a new release. But I won’t spend any more time playing with it.

Most likely the PC version works fine, since it was the original release. So give it a try.

EDITED TO ADD:
Sadly, I re-downloaded, reinstalled the software, threw away the original prefs file, restarted the Mac and got the same result. I guess it’s just not compatible with my machine, which is a very ordinary mirror-front G4 running 10.2.8. Oh well.

  1. It works now and very well if you’re still interested :D I decided to check out their paid version. One of the reasons that pushed me over was the fact that i can have a zillion photos and make color palettes from those reference images - neato.

In case you’re wondering why i’m in the archives, I was looking for tips on using PS. I thought I might find something in your earlier posts. I made a disastrous first attempt and had the cheek to put it up for Illustration Friday this week :D
